The most common load stored in heated areas is wine to avoid discolouration as well as many other goods that are sensitive to the cold.
Port of Södertälje’s 2000 square meter heated storage warehouse is heated to an agreeable temperature during the winter months. The Port is also connected to the district heating system and the warehouse essentially uses renewable fuels in this process.
‘The telephones often start ringing at lunchtime on a Friday when customers hear the weather forecast that a cold front is on the way with freezing temperatures. But, the heated warehouse is always ready for use. On a busy weekend we can take care of over 100 TEU indoors.
On particularly long Christmas and New Year’s holidays we’ve been able to turn on the heating of other warehouses just to be on the safe side. We don’t want to take any chances with susceptible container goods that are worth millions of krona, adds Sven Söderman.
