    New partnership sees Port of Södertälje’s car volumes increase by 25%

    Port of  Södertälje, who recently signed a contract with Scandinavian Motortransport AB, which will result in a large increase of car volumes to the port during 2012. Motortransport AB is Sweden’s largest transporter of cars and the company handles over 250,000 cars a year. This is a long-term collaboration where Port of Södertälje’s work in the area of safety has being a determining factor in the solidifying of the partnership.

    Increase in volumes as Port of Södertälje establishes connection to the continent

    A collaboration between Port of Södertälje, Intercontainer and two of Europe’s largest intermodular rail operators will now make it possible to transport both trailers and containers by rail from Italy and Germany directly to Södertälje. This joint collaboration indicates that Port of Södertälje strengthens its position as the Greater Stockholm regions’ logistical hub; managing director Erik Froste foresees an increase in goods volumes via the rail network.

    Encouraging figures from Port of Södertälje

    The year 2010 was the year volumes increased greatly at Port of Södertälje and losses turned around to profit. The sector that performed the best were car imports which enjoyed an increase of 46 percent. The downturn, a result of the recent financial crisis, is now over and Port of Södertälje’s managing director Erik Froste remains confident that results for 2011 will point to a further increase in volumes and a higher turnover.

    Port of Södertälje improves service to its container customers and welcomes Mobile Container Repair (MCR) to Södertälje. MCR provides container repair services, PTI and container cleaning services. MCR has been operational in Gothenburg since 1983 and has now chosen Port of Södertälje to expand their operations in Sweden.
