The Port of Södertälje is pushing forward the purchase of a larger harbour mobile crane...
The reason is the rapidly expanding growth of container
customers. The new harbour mobile crane, the only one of its kind in
Sweden, will further improve efficiency.
In the past year, the Port of Södertälje has increased its container growth
by 50 per cent, one of the highest figures in Sweden. The increased
pressure, particularly with regard to containers, paved the way for
exchanging one of the existing cranes to a new larger harbour mobile
crane. The new crane is a Gottwald HMK 6407 and weighs in at 420
tonnes. It has an 18 per cent greater acceleration and is 12 per cent
faster. The crane has a much greater outreach than both the present
cranes and it manages Panamax vessels.
-The Port of Södertälje can now manage more ships and more containers
quicker than before. The crane is the largest of its type in Sweden so it is
a real investment for the future. The Port of Södertälje will now manage
without further crane investments for many years to come, says
Erik Froste, MD of the Port of Södertälje.
As the crane is a ready made product, transportation and installation will
only take a few months and the crane will be ready for use by mid July.
For environmental reasons, the crane will be electrically operated.
-The new, more powerful crane and the extension of jetty 13, which will be
completed in May this year, will together greatly improve our entire
container management, says Erik Froste.
