Port of Södertälje had a growth of 50% in 2007 compared with 2006...
Total handled containers ended finally up in 58.500 TEU. The increase
came from containers arriving with vessels as well as by railway.
The increase was partly reasoned by the new container lines, OOCL and
Containerships, which became new clients 2006, but also Transatlantics
both lines (Transfeeder and BML). Also the rail-service operated by
Intercontainer has had a considerable growth.
Total was 58.500 TEU handled.
During November and December agreements has been signed with
further three container lines. ACL, NYK Line and MSC.
ACL will transfer their volumes for the Stockholm region to Södertälje
during beginning of 2008. NYK Line intends to close other container
depots in the Stockholm region and transfer these quantities to
Södertälje.
Also MSC has decided to choose Södertälje for the import to the
Stockholm region.
-We see Port of Södertälje to be a more and more interesting port for the
Stockholm hinterland. We have a very good geographical position in the
region enabling us to offer prompt deliveries to low costs.
We expect to continue to grow 2008, but perhaps to more reasonable
20% increase, Erik Froste MD at Port of Södertälje comments.
