During 2011 Port of Södertälje container volumes increased by nearly 20%. The prospects for continued growth are good since Team Lines, one of Europe’s largest feeder shipping lines, decided to commence weekly operations to the Greater Stockholm logistical hub.
Port of Södertälje is Sweden’s fourth largest container port handling over 80,000 TEU during 2011. Growth during 2011 reached 19.5% and since 2006 the port’s container volumes have doubled.
‘During the past years we have been in discussions with Time Lines and it is very good news that they have decided to renew a weekly service to Port of Södertälje again. Team Lines is an important part in the puzzle in reaching our goal to become the obvious choice of container port in the region’, says Eric Froste, managing director of Port of Södertälje.
Team Lines is one of Europe’s largest feeder shipping lines and offers unsurpassed geographical cover. Team Lines fleet is made up of modern feeder ships and call at more than 30 ports from the Iberian peninsula to the Baltic states. The weekly route, which now includes Port of Södertälje, sails from Bremerhaven via Hamburg, then on to Södertälje with final destination the port of Klaipeda in Lithuania before returning to Bremerhaven.
‘We see Port of Södertälje as an important complement to offer our customers in the Greater Stockholm region,’ says Johan Wallén, managing director at Team Lines Sweden.
Team Lines is now the fifth container line to dock at Port of Södertälje, although with the least weekly traffic.
